Cover of the Week 4-29-09

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Here’s our first cover of the week! Once a week (or you know, whenever I feel like it I guess) I’ll pick out a comic or two not for it’s interiors or story, but for the thing that makes you want to pick it up first, the cover.

Fringe #4

Fringe #4

Reason #1: I was looking for today’s pick and nothing was quite standing out, so I decided to check the covers to see if any followed the fancy-shmancy art rule, the divine proportion. Though this cover doesn’t follow it, it DOES have the proportion. Technically.

Reason #2: I like the way these covers are all following the blue-color-scheme, negative-looking, almost-scientific theme. I love themes.

Nitpick: I hate the title font. Well, not so much the font but the fact that it’s in 3-D. It really… doesn’t go well, in my opinion.

Until next week! (or whenever)

Dan Kaplan Vs. Wolverine

So I would say that Hugh Jackman is an OK Free Comic Book Day spokesman:

But he’s probably about 50% as good as Dan Kaplan:

Ghost Rider Figure by Marvel Select

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Ok, I dunno if you’ve been to the Madness lately, but the place is just lousy with  stuff. I mean, it’s pretty much wall-to-wall comics, trades, toys, Martian Manhunter clocks — there’s so much crap to buy that it’s starting to get ridiculous. So Wade decided that, in the interest of having less stuff, we can sell some of it off at startingly low prices on this very weblog. We’ve dubbed the initiative “Deal of the Week”, and you can probably infer from that how often it will occur.

Our first Deal of the Week is none other than the Spirit of Vengeance himself, Ghost Rider. And I’m not talking about that Danny Ketch jerk or the dude on the horse. This is the real deal Jonny Blaze guy that Method Man got his nickname from.

Here’s the “feature” list from Amazon:

  • Ghost Rider was a 2007 film starring Nicholas Cage as Johnny Blaze
  • Johnny Blaze made a deal with the Devil and became Ghost Rider, the Spirit of Vengeance
  • Stands 7″ tall complete with deluxe base
  • This highly-detailed figure release features multiple points of articulation

I question whether the first two bullet points are actually features and not just unfortunate realities. In any case, this figure normally retails for $20, but for one week only we are offering it at the low low price of $8 (+ $7 shipping).

Don’t believe me that this is a really good deal? Well then, just press play on the video above and I’ll let Lincoln take care of the hard sell.

This offer is exclusive to domestic customers and only good while supplies last.

This deal has ended!
